Seeing I’m in the flashback mood I’ll rewind to my Asian Basketball Confederation broadcast days with the above photo. Way back in those days in the mid-90’s I was first introduced to television broadcasting by my long-time friend Jerry “The Voice” Barisano.
“The Voice” has a long history in the broadcasting business dating back to his Boston University days followed by a turn behind the microphone with the NBA San Antonio Spurs. When he moved to Asia he hooked me into an interview with Star Sports (now ESPN-Asia) and off we went traveling across Asia (our first job was in Jakarta but we particularly enjoyed our Manila trips!) broadcasting Olympic & World Championship Qualifying Tournaments. I learned a lot from Jerry. His preparation for a broadcast was highly professional and his delivery was smooth as silk. Of course it was tough to get a word in edge-wise but we had great fun.
Now a committed father residing in Shenyang with his twin boys, Gervin& Thomas, (how he handles twin 5-year old boys at his age still defies logic), “The Voice” is set to take another step in his professional journey with his lifelong friend & NBA Hall of Fame great George “The Iceman” Gervin in the sports & media business.
Good luck, Voice!
